Google and Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai, has announced the creation of a unit called Google DeepMind that will bring together two leading research groups in AI, Google Research’s Brain team and DeepMind. The unit will be led by Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind, and the main goal is to accelerate the progress of general AI while developing it boldly and responsibly. Jeff Dean will become Google’s Chief Scientist and work alongside Hassabis, while Google Research will continue its work on fundamental advances in computer science, tech and society, including areas such as privacy and security, quantum computing, health, climate and sustainability.
