Google is investigating a bug in Local Services Ads that is causing businesses to appear in search results for their competitors’ names. This issue arose shortly after Google introduced branded Local Service Ads called Direct Business Search, allowing brands to show up in search results when someone directly searches for a brand or business. Google has confirmed that through Direct Business Search, only the relevant business should appear in search results, and charges will only apply for leads from new customers. The bug was first reported by an SEO consultant, Joy Hawkins, who noticed businesses bidding on competitors’ names. Google Ads Liaison Officer Ginny Marvin acknowledged the bug and stated that a fix is in progress. Users can opt-out of Direct Business Search ads by adjusting campaign settings manually.
