Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind, predicts that Google’s interface will shift away from the search box and towards conversations by 2033. The new interfaces such as ChatGPT, Bing and Google’s new Search Generative Experience signal a major shift in search. Suleyman suggests that “fluent natural language” will replace Google’s current 1980s Yellow Pages-like search dialogue, however he expects a transition will occur rather than an overnight change. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has made similar comments, indicating that search will be “more ambiently available to users in radically different ways” in the years to come.
